Hugely successful constituency dinner

Around 45 Libdems from across East Devon and some from Exeter, Torridge & West Devon, Newton Abbot, Tiverton & Honiton gathered on Saturday 17th March in Ottery St Mary for their annual constituency dinner, despite the impending snow blizzards that sadly prevented few guests from further afield (South Hams) from attending.

Our guest speaker was the superbly upbeat Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath since the 2017 snap general election. She spoke about her path into politics, stressed the need for more diversity, in particular women and ethnic minorities, the need for strong local government, better and more housing, and of course Brexit. The dinner guests attending included a fair number of district and county councillors so Wera's call for us to boost our numbers of local councillors was very well received. Wera entreated us all to resist Brexit with very fibre of our being, not least because we'd want to be able to be sure that we had done our best for our children and grandchildren.

Many guests have subsequently got in touch to say how motivating and positive they found the evening, and are of course hugely grateful to Wera and her husband William for braving the weather to come down to Ottery. We are so lucky as a party to have the backing of such well-intentioned, able people at the top of the party, both in the Commons and in the Lords.
